Gilvey, John A. Sr.-94 of North Cape May, New Jersey, passed away at Victoria Manor on Friday, April 15, 2016. born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he has been a resident of Cape May County over thirty years. John attended Ascension of Our Lord Grammar School and Northeast Catholic High School graduating in 1940. during the Second World War, Radioman Second class Gilvey served in the US Navy. Post-war, he was a sheet metal worker in the Philadelphia Navy Yard and later, a US Postal clerk and supervisor. He is survived by his wife, Frances Henry Maher Gilvey, sons Rev. John A. Gilvey, OSFS, Joseph F. Gilvey and Eugene T. Gilvey and step-daughter Carol Ann Maher. John was preceded in death by his parents Victor A. and Mary M. Gilvey; sister Anna M. Gilvey and wives Carol Boyd Sultan Gilvey and Marie Murphy Gilvey Visitation will be 10AM to 10:45 AM Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at St Agnes Mission church, 501 Cape Avenue, Cape May Point, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place at Cape May Co. Veterans Cemetery, Cape May Court house, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family request contributions to DeSales Seminary Associates, 2200 Kentmere Parkway, Wilmington, DE 19806 or Holy Redeemer Development Office, 5221 Moredon Road, huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.
