Click photo to read Top 25 Gram memories. When you live for 83 years, you can certainly touch a lot of lives. I am sure everyone has their own memories of my Gram, and you could tell us about many ways she made an impact to you. These things make up her legacy, and they’re what she’ll be remembered for in 5, 10, or even 30 years from now. They’re also the things we will miss the most about her.
As you probably know she had 9 grandchildren, and on behalf of this grandkid generation, I’d like to share with you the Top 25 things we’ll miss most about our Gram:
25. After every visit, her sending us home with more coupons than we knew what to do with. And sometimes…they were even expired!
24. The countless glass containers you could find in her dining room pantry full of croutons, buttons, and twist ties.
23. Her handmade clothespin character Christmas tree ornaments.
22. Getting calls on nights the Flyers were winning where she would say: Wayne Simmonds is great! And receiving a phone call the next night when they were losing where she’d say: Wayne Simmonds is the worst player ever!
21. Her unfiltered words of wisdom…such as the one she often shared with her granddaughters when we introduced her to a new boyfriend, which was: Why buy the cow if you can get the milk for free?
20. Sitting next to her at a Flyers game because she was the biggest – and often loudest – fan in the Wells Fargo Center.
19. Her relentless pursuit of cost and energy savings, even if it meant not letting us run the ceiling fan which probably costs like 5 cents an hour to do, or using an egg timer to make sure our showers were 3 minutes or less.
18. Her tin foil surprises from the freezer…also known most nights as, “dinner.”
17. Getting a call during every change of season to come over and get down bags of clothes (and other stuff) from the attic in the garage, and getting paid in quarters.
16. Her ability to maintain a museum-like quality for her black and white bathroom’s shower by not letting anyone use it, even guests.
15. Even though she was diabetic, finding her secret stash of chocolate she kept in her bedroom. Or, the Klondike bars she cleverly hid in frozen vegetable boxes in the garage freezer so us kids couldn’t find them.
14. Her slight obsession with Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs.
13. Sending her empty jelly jars which she’d fill with candy and give to the great grandchildren when they’d visit.
12. Her ability to remove any kind of stain, from any kind of material, using an old toothbrush and some Lestoil.
11. Long days at the beach and her famous beach sandwiches.
10. And speaking of the beach, we’ll also miss Gram’s refusal to sit anywhere but the same spot… next to the rocks… at Broadway Beach in Cape May. Trust me, we tried many times to convince her to sit somewhere else (maybe a spot that was closer to the snack stand or arcade) but it never happened. Looking back though, we realize now this helped us create some of the best friendships and memories with some really great people summer after summer.
9. We’ll miss going out to a restaurant and her needing two to-go bags – one for her leftovers and the other for the table’s jelly packets, sugar, Equal, and muffins (especially from Menz).
8. Her Christmas bazaar crafts that also doubled as some of the best homemade family gifts – including her crocheted hanging dish towels, toilet paper roll covers, and tissue box covers. She also made hand-stitched baby blankets for her great grandchildren which are something we’ll always treasure.
7. Her giblet gravy on Thanksgiving.
6. Playing laser disc movies at her Ella Street house, including such classics as Black Beauty, Rocky, Planet of the Apes (the original) and many Disney classics.
5. Her many nights of adult only card games in the screen house, while us grandkids stood outside watching, begging to come in since we were getting eaten alive by mosquitoes.
4. Her hard stares when we ordered a side of scrapple at Chalkis or Seven Islands breakfast because it was an item that was not found on the discounted kids menu.
3. When she took in two of her granddaughters to live with her, and raised them during their tough teenage years.
2. Opening Christmas gifts from her and undoubtedly finding a marble copy book, socks, and individually wrapped #2 pencils.
And finally, perhaps the #1 thing we will miss the most about Gram is, that despite her sometimes tough exterior, we all knew that deep down, she loved every one of us like we were her own.
They say grandmothers are a blessing, and we realize we were truly blessed with having her as ours.
We love you and will miss you Gram!

Dear Roy & Family
We are soooo sorry for the loss pf Rita.. Such a great person,
We loved her very much.
Loved when we would meet in the Villas Diner after Sunday Mass, she always had a story to tell us. Loved listening to her stories about when you guys were first married. When she would make her Cheesecake & give it to Ramiro she would always check with me to see if he gave me a piece. Still have the towel she made for me with her cookies at Christmas. RIP Rita now Jesus will taste your Cheescakes!!!

To the Moore family:
Sorry for your loss. I didn't know your mother (because I lived on the other side of the tracks aka 2nd street) but after reading the obituary, I can see how much alive and fun your mother was. Sorry I didn't get a chance to join in your wonderful times. You all will have and keep such great memories.
Prayers are being said for all of you. God bless
