Charles H "Bud" Eckel Jr., 77, of North Cape May passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at his home surrounded by family. Born in Camden, NJ; he has been a Cape May area resident since 1966. Bud served his country in the US Coast Guard. He retired in 2000 from the family business he started in 1977, Charles H Eckel & Sons Diesel Service, in Lower Township. Prior to starting his own business, Bud worked at the Salem Nuclear Power Plant as a pipefitter with Local 322 Pipefitter's Union. Bud is survived by his wife Marjorie A (nee Dhonau) Eckel of North Cape May; his children: Charles "Buddy" J (Cherie) Eckel of Erma, NJ; Marjorie A (James) Dietterich of North Cape May, NJ; Thomas J (Sabina) Eckel of Ft Pierce, FL; William J Eckel of Marathon, FL; and Robert J Eckel of North Cape May, NJ. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; his sisters: Patricia A (John) Hoffman of Jacksonville, FL; Rosemary T Eckel of Cherry Hill, NJ; and Kathleen D (Albert) Scully of Clermont, FL. He was preceded in death by his brother Richard J Eckel. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 Am on Friday, May 25, 2012at the Parish of St John Neumann, St Raymond's RC Church, Ocean & Bayshore Rd, Villas, NJ; where friends may call from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. The family suggests donations in Bud's memory to the AtlantiCare Hospice, PO Box 1626, Pleasantville, NJ 08232-6626.
