Obituary of Marcella D. Sawyer

Marcella Doris Sawyer (nee Wagner), 86, of Wildwood Crest passed away peacefully on Christmas morning after a battle with lung cancer. She was born in 1925 and raised in Philadelphia, PA., the daughter of Frederick & Mary Wagner. She had a deep faith in Jesus Christ. Marcella is survived by her beloved son Thelbert "Tom" Sawyer Jr. and his wife Barbara. She was the loving grandmother of Jennifer Sawyer and James (Mary) Sawyer; and the adoring great-grandmother to Suzanne, Rachel, James, Sienna, & Lilah Sawyer. She is also survived by her loving caregiver Cecelia Wireduah. Marcella received excellent care from Holy Redeemer nurses: Mary H, Wanda R, and the aides who visited her. She was predeceased by her husband Thelbert L Sawyer Sr.; her parents; and siblings: Vera Vogelman, Gladys Saxon, & Ed Wagner. Marcella was a very kind and generous person; an excellent craftswoman; she loved to quilt and crochet. Her culinary masterpieces will be greatly missed, especially her corn pone, black-eyed peas, and crabcakes. She enjoyed fishing very much. From childhood, Marcella spent many summers with her family in a small fishing community at Two Mile in Lower Township, fishing, boating, and swimming. She moved permanently to Wildwood Crest with her husband and son Tom in 1955. After settling here she worked at Snow Canning Company as a checker. Marcy enjoyed visiting her husband's family in North Carolina and made many trips there with her grandchildren. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at Cape May County Veteran's Cemetery, 127 Crest Haven Rd, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. The family suggests donations in Marcella's memory to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 N Route 9, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
