William J Harner Jr,"Bill", 77, passed away peacefully at his home in Cape May, NJ on October 23, 2011; surrounded by family members after a lengthly illness. Born in Schulllllylkill Haven, PA on September 14, 1934 to Doris (Berger) Harner and William J Harner Sr. He graduated from Schuylkill Haven High School in 1952. A member of the #8218 Engineer's Aerial Photography Unit, he was stationed in Korea for one year. He was employed by Bell Telephone of PA and AT&T until his retirement in 1986. Bill is survived by his wife of 54 years, Eileen (Hughes) and his children: Holly Ransom (Steve), Michelle Bostic (Brian), William J Harner III (Lauren), and Benjamin Harner (Sheryl). He is also survived by his siaters: Helen Shaup (Robert) and Victoria Bertolet (Gary). Bill was blessed with 9 grandchildren who will all miss him. Throughout his life, Bill enjoyed participating in all sports, especially games that were played in the backyard with family. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Wildwood Golf and Country Club and Lake Tarpon Golf Club. He was also a lifetime member and past president of the Cape May Tennis Club. Bill enjoyed travel, and the return home. He visited all 50 states, 4 continents, and enjoyed many cruises including his favorite, a trip through the Panama Canal. He was a man of few words, but loved to tease and had a fun-loving personality. He will leave a great void in many lives, and will be missed by everyone.
