Obituary of Jane E. Deeney

Jane Elizabeth (Miller) Deeney, age 86, died peacefully on Sunday, October 9, 2011. She was surrounded by family at the home of Renee and Jim Wickersty on Silver Lake in Elk Twp.
Jane was a homemaker and a member of Our Lady of the Angels RC Church in Cape May Court House. She was the devoted wife of Paul A. until his death on Oct. 9, 1984. Surviving are her children Barbara Test of Beachwood, Arlene Ash of Williamstown, Paul M. Deeney of the Court House, Lorraine Faix of Williamstown, Lawrence Deeney of Waterford, Diane Frank and husband Bernard of National Park, Renee Wickersty and husband James G. of Elk Twp., Martin Deeney and his wife Christina of Williamstown, and Kelly Lambert of Gibbsonia, PA. Jane's predeceased children are Jane Shepard of Sicklerville and Joyce Dougherty of Williamstown. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Additionally, Jane is survived by sisters: Gertrude Mann (husband Harry) of Hingham, MA, Rose McAfee (husband Robert) of Pennsauken, Bertha Drummond of Petersboro, Mabel Sawyer of Somerdale, Helen Conard (husband Allen) of Haddon Heights, Mary Palmer of Hamilton Twp, Margaret Agigian (husband Robert) of Lindenwold, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased siblings were her brothers Walter, Raymond and Jackie.
Although born in Magnolia, Jane spent her youth in Avalon and Camden. After her marriage, the family resided for 10 years in Haddon Heights where her husband was a volunteer fireman and Jane served on the Ladies Auxiliary to the firemen. In 1962, they moved to Stratford and lived there until 1980 when they moved to Cape May Court House. Jane resided there until August of this year when she moved to Elk Twp. to live with her daughter and son-in-law while she bravely fought mesothelioma. Jane was an avid reader who loved being at the shore and spending time with her family.
A viewing will be held Friday from 9-11:30am at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd., N. Cape May where a service will be held at 11:30 am. Burial will follow immediately at St. Mary's Cemetery, Cold Spring. It was Jane's request that those in attendance dress in non-black casual attire. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to Ronald McDonald House of Southern NJ, 550 Mickle Blvd., Camden, NJ 08103 in Jane's memory.
