Herbert C King, 82, of Villas passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, August 19, 2011 at the Cape Regional Medical Center. Born in Tamaqua, PA and formerly of Philadelphia; he moved to Cape May County in 1947 with the love of his life, Dolly, and raised 7 children. Herbert served his country in the US Army and Air Force; serving in Japan, Greenland, New Jersey, New York, and Florida; retiring after 30 years. He also worked at the Cape May Lewis Ferry, drove tractor trailers cross country, security at Caesars Casino, and most recently as a driver at the Belleplain Emergency Corps. Herbert attended Cornerstone Assembly of God in Wildwood. He enjoyed being called the "Mayor of Shoprite"; intricate puzzles; crosswords; gardening; and especially loved his puddy cat Buttons. Herbert was preceded in death by his wife Frances (Elder) "Dolly" in 2009; siblings: James, Thomas, Nancy, and Catherine McCully. He is survived by children: William (Debbie) King of Belleplain, NJ; Sandei (Steve) Gittle of North Wildwood, NJ; Debra (Rev William) Gager of North Cape May, NJ; Joy (Joseph) Sanchez of Smithville, NJ; David King of NH; Donna (Gary O'Shea) Hess of Wildwood, NJ; and John (Susan) King of North Cape May, NJ. Also surviving are 22 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren. There will be a memorial service at 2:00 PM on Wednesday,August 31, 2011 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends may call from1:00 to 2:00 PM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Donations may be made in Herbert's memory the Cape May County Animal Shelter, Belleplain Rescue Squad, or the Susan G Komen for the Cure.
