Obituary of Claire Therese Conant

Claire T. Conant, age 91, of Villas, NJ passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 31, 2011. She was born in Brooklyn, NY and lived in many places; but spent her happiest years in Sharon, CT. Claire earned a BA in Education from Queens College in 1941 and a MA in Social Work from Fordham Univ. in 1971. She worked in social work for many years for the State of New York and attained the position of Chief of Services for Wassiac Hospital. Claire devoted a great deal of her life to the service of others. She was preceded in death by a son John R. Conant and her brothers James and Robert Higgins. She is survived by eight children: James P. Conant of Warwick, NY; Joseph P. Conant of Peachtree City; GA, Richard P. Conant of Bozeman, MT; Robert R. Conant of Nyack, NY; Raymond P. Conant of N. Anson, ME; Roger W. Conant of Goshen, NY; George E. Conant of Woodstock, NY; and Mary C. (Baglione) Layton of Villas, NJ. Also surviving are a brother Richard Higgins of Mechanicville, NY; 16 grand children; and 6 great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am Thursday, August 11, 2011 at St. Bernard RC Church, 52 New Street, Sharon, CT. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Contributions are suggested to the Cape VNA (Hospice), 1940 US Route 9 N, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210 or a charity of the donor's choice.
