Obituary of Horace Griskey Goodwin

OBITUARY LCDR Horace G Goodwin Jr. (Dick) USNR Retired, age 89 of Avalon, was born and grew up in Philadelphia, PA. Graduated from Germantown High School. Served in the Navy in the Pacific during WW II in Air Operations and Air Intelligence. He attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from the Wharton School of Finance (Class of '49). He returned to active duty and served in Korea during the Korean War. He worked for the US Steel Corporation for 27 years in marketing and sales management. Was active in scouting for 15 years in the Allegheny Trails Council in Pittsburgh, PA. Retired to Avalon, NJ in 1982. He was a former president of the Jersey Cape Chapter of the Retired Officers Association, board member of the South Jersey Regional Theater, board member of the Wetlands Institute, chairman of the Avalon Environmental Commission, and a member of the Avalon Planning Board. Married for 64 years, he is survived by his wife, Margaret (nee Blair); daughters Susan Wagenhofer of Wellington, New Zealand & Amy Wright Goodwin of Richmond, VA; sons Michael Stewart Goodwin of Chalfont, PA & and Jeffrey Anderson Goodwin of El Dorado, AR; his grandchildren: Andrew, Kristin, Sarah, Michael, Chloe, Jacob, Hannah, and Ben; and his great-grandson Caleb. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor, NJ 08247. The Goodwin family will hold a memorial service and reception July 6, 2011 from 12:00 to 3:00 PM with military honors at 1:00 PM.
