Obituary of Bert Eisl

Please share a memory of Bert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Bert Eisl, age 87, of N. Cape May passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his home in North Cape May only hours after a wonderful Fathers Day breakfast shared with his family. Bert was born August 30, 1923 in Schneizlreuth, Germany. He was the son of the late Englebert and the late Elizabeth (Lang) Eisl. He was predeceased by his wife, Edith Eisl, his daughter Christa Twonley and his brother Max Eisl. Bert received formal training as a baker and pastry chef and after serving in the German Army he moved his family to the United States in 1955 and has been a Cape May County resident ever since residing in both Wildwood Crest and Lower Township. Bert was previously the head chef at Zaberer's Restaurant in North Wildwood. Bert also worked for several years at The Mariner Inn, Wildwood Crest, NJ in the early days. Bert and Edith built and ran the Alps Motel in Wildwood Crest for 20 years until retiring in 1989. Bert had a great sense of humor and those who know him could hear him from far away with his loud infectious laughter. He was a tenacious reader and among many things he enjoyed baking, watching old western movies, gardening, playing chess, tennis, traveling and spending time with family and friends. Bert was a fixture at the Cape May Tennis Club and even worked in the office part-time for several years after retiring from the Motel business. He especially loved cooking for his family and friends while sharing a beer with them. One of his favorite sayings was, "I am going to go with a full stomach and I'm not gonna be thirsty!" - Cheers to you Bert! You will be sorely missed. Bert is survived by his daughter Rosa Montis and her husband George of Pleasantville; two grandsons and their wives: Earle and Kristi Collins, Erik and Jessica Collins; two great-grandchilden Jakob and Lukas Collins; his sister-in-law Gabrielle Lechner & her children: Gabrielle (Max) Mitterbichler & Hans Lechner; and cousin Toni Stahl. Family and Friends are invited to a Memorial Service to celebrate Bert's life on Tuesday evening June 28th at 6:30 PM at Covenant Presbyterian Church located at 123 Fishing Creek Road - North Cape May. There will be a reception immediately following the memorial service. To share condolences, please visit www.evoyfuneralhome.com.
