William T Winters, age 78, of North Cape May died Monday, January 14, 2013 at Pennsylvania Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA. of pneumonia. William was born and raised in West Brighton Beach, NY, graduated from St. Peter's Boys High School, and earned a degree in theology from St. Joseph's Seminary (Dunwoodie) in Yonkers. Mr. Winters, a US Army veteran, worked as an import specialist with US Customs for 32 years, and retired in 1992. He relocated to Cape May, NJ in 1999. "He was the greatest guy, a great husband and father, and kind to everyone," said his wife of 46 years, the former Margaret Scharfenberg. "I don't think I ever saw him have an argument with anyone." "He was always there, if you needed anything he'd run and do it," she added. Mr. Winters was an avid reader, loved gardening and flowers, enjoyed bingo, and loved a good joke. "He also had a big thing about feeding the birds, squirrels, and anything else that came his way," his wife said. He was passionate about football, and rooted for Notre Dame and the Giants. He was a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart RC Church in West Brighton, and more recently he attended St. John of God RC Church in North Cape May, NJ. In addition to his wife, Margaret, he is survived by his daughters Christine and Carol; his brothers Benjamin and Stephen; his sister Marilyn Cangro; and eight grandchildren. Friends and relatives will be received on Saturday, March 2, 2013 from 2 to 4 PM at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where a Memorial Service will take place at 3:00 PM.
