Clayton F ("Doc") Carr, age 77, of Cape May & Little River, SC passed away at the Tidewell Hospice House in Venice, FL on Wednesday, May 4, 2011. Clayton was born on April 11, 1934 in Woodlawn, NJ. After high school Clayton attended the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated in 1960. Before coming to Cape May and joining his late brother Herb in practice in 1961, he did his internship in Michigan. During his tenure of 37 years treating generations of families; Clayton also served as Medical Director of the Crest Haven Nursing Home, as well as the Lower Cape May Regional School physician. He could always be seen roaming the sidelines at all the home LMCR football games. Clayton was an old school doctor. House calls were common and he would always help anyone even if they did not have the means to pay. He would always tell people not to smoke, as he smoked his corn cob pipe. Doc truly enjoyed the practice of medicine and taking care of his patients. He was "one of a kind". Clayton found time to serve his community as a member and past president of the Lower Township Rotary Club, was an active member of the Lions Club, and Cape May County Mosquito Commission. Clayton was a founding member of the Cape May Tuna & Marlin Club. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Upon retirement, he moved to Carolina Beach, NC where he was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary. A few years later he settled in Little River, SC. Clayton is survived by two sisters: Virginia Rossell and Estelle Leavey. He was predeceased by his brother Herbert Carr and his sister Elaine Paul. Clayton leaves behind his wife of many years Margaret Daphne Carr currently of Venice, FL & Little River, SC. He was the loving father to Clayton F Carr Jr (Elaine), Gregory A Carr Sr. (Tracey), Deborah L Carr (Bill), Sheila D Playford (Gary), and Robert A Carr. He also leaves behind Louella E Carr (mother of their children), stepdaughters: Ellen Gailing, Carla Shaw (and her two children Ryan & Lilani Shaw). He was Pop Pop to Corrinne Carr, Crystal N Playford, Gary Playford Jr., Sarah A Carr, and Gregory A Carr Jr.; and one great grandson Xavier. As a father, grandfather, husband, friend, and pillar of the community; he will be sorely missed.
