Edward R Dougherty Sr., age 72, of Villas passed away peacefully on Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Cape Regional Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia, he has spent all of his life in the Cape May area. Edward served his country in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a meat cutter for Shop Rite in Rio Grande from 1965 to 1995. His last employment was as a Special Education Teacher for the Lower Camden County Board of Education from 1995 to 2003. Edward was a member of the American Legion Cape May Chapter; the Bayshore Sportsman's Club; the Moose of Erma; and a life member of the NRA. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Rose (nee Peters) Dougherty of Villas; his children: Edward R (Delia) Dougherty Jr.; Cathy Dougherty; and Koren (Ed) Barnes all of Lower Township, NJ. Also surviving are his brothers: Raymond (Lynn) Dougherty of Lower Twp. & James (Patricia) Dougherty of Middle Twp.; 7 grandchildren: Joshua, Adrianna, Edward J, Jessica, Nicole, Mackenzie, & Jordan; and one great grandchild: Kylie Rose. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 29, 2011 at the Parish of St John Neumann at St Raymond's RC Church, Ocean & Bayshore Rd, Villas, NJ. Friends may call at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204 on Thursday evening April 28, 2011 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and again on Friday, April 29, 2011 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Interment will follow Friday's service at Cape May County Veteran's Cemetery, 127 Crest Haven Rd, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
