Obituary of Thomas Roger Garrison

Thomas Roger Garrison, 63, of 807 Cape Ave, Cold Spring, NJ died on April 14, 2011 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania due to complications following a heart transplant. Roger was born on Oct. 18, 1947 in Millville, NJ. Formerly of Port Elizabeth, NJ; Roger lived in Cape May for 37 years. He retired after 25 years as a Corrections Officer at the Bayside State Prison. He served as a Marine in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969. Roger was a member of the Cape May Kiwanis Club and the Wildwood Golf & Country Club where he was an avid golfer. He participated in "Meals on Wheels" and for many years was head usher at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Cape May. He worked out regularly for the last 15 years at Cardiac Rehab in the Cape Regional Medical Center, and was known around the hospital as a real comic. Roger is survived by his wife Marmie (nee Owens); daughter Whitney; mother Helen Garrison; sister Madeline (Jack) Lafferty of Port Elizabeth; and brother Laurence of Arizona. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Laurence and brother Paul. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 19th at 2:00 PM at Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church, Washington St, Cape May. Friends may call at the church beginning at 12:30 PM. Interment will be private. Contributions in his memory may be made to "Friends for Roger Garrison", PNC Bank, 930 Washington St, Cape May, NJ 08204. A Beef n' Beer is scheduled for Sat. April 30th at 6:00 PM at the VFW, 419 Congress St, Cape May. This event will be "A Celebration of Roger's Life".
