John Matteo, age 55, of North Cape May passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Philadelphia and formerly of North Wildwood, he has been a Cape May area resident for 20 years. John was a kitchen designer for Home Depot in Burleigh and worked for Surf Song Beach Resort. He was a former Lieutenant & Secretary for the North Wildwood Fire Company #1; was past president of the Durning String Band of Philadelphia; a musician & singer for the Delta Lady & Renaissance; and a member of St Ann's RC Church . John is survived by his wife Michele; his sons: John Matteo Jr. of N Cape May; Matthew Ferguson of N Cape May; & Sean Matteo of Pitman, NJ; along with his daughter Lauren Matteo of N Cape May. Also surviving are: his mother Rita Matteo of Lower Twp; his brother Vincent (Julia) Matteo of Lower Twp; his brother Anthony (Jennifer) Matteo of Philadelphia; and many nieces & nephews. There will be a funeral service at 7:00 PM on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends may call from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. Intermant will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory can be made to the Cape May County Special Service Schools, 4 Moore Rd, DN 704, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Special thanks to Msgr. Ryan of St John of God RC Church.
