Hanie, Donald A, - was born on October 11, 1931 in Sewaren. Departed this life peacefully on Tuesday, January 25, 2011. he lived a rich and joyous life, filled with numerous achievements. A proud American, he served our country in the US Army from 1952 to 1954. A devoted family man, he wed Joan Miller on August 14, 1954. With Joan, he raised two successful children and enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren. A man with a strong work ethic, he had a successful and productive career as a carpenter. He retired from Dunham Construction Company. He was a member of the Carpenters Local 715. Donald A. Hanie retired in 1996 and moved to Cape May to enjoy his golden years with his loving wife. His hobbies included fishing, flytying, craftsman woodworking and gardening. He will be remembered for his kind heart and his warm smile and his expert cooking skills. Surviving are his loving wife, Joan of 58 years, a son, Kurt Hanie and a daughter in law Lisa of Bridgewater, NJ, a daughter Kristin Houghton and son- in-law Dave of Lincoln university, PA and his five grandchildren: David Houghton III, Jacklyn Houghton, Logan Hanie, Kevin Hanie and Jessica Hanie and his sister Dorothy Simonsen of Marshall, MO. Services are Friday, January 28, 2011 at the EVOY FUNERAL HOME 3218 Bayshore Road North Cape May, NJ at 11 am. Friends may call from 10 - 11am at the funeral home.
