Edith "Betty" E Gillingham, age 90, of North Cape May and formerly of Philadelphia; passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2010. She was raised in the Germantown section of Philadelphia and moved to the Cape May area in the late 1970's. Betty was a founder and teacher at the Cape Christian Academy in Lower Township. She enjoyed art and singing, belonging to several local choirs. Betty was preceded in death by her husband William K Gillingham and her eldest son William, who died in Viet Nam. She is survived by her son Stephen (Annmarie) Gillingham of Drexel Hill, PA; 2 grandchildren: Stephen & Jeffrey Gillingham; her sister Ethel Smyth; and her brother Clark Harbach. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM Thursday, December 16, 2010 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204. Interment will follow at the Cape May County Veteran's Cemetery. The family suggests donations in Betty's memory to the Cape Christian Academy, 10 Oyster Rd, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
