Jennie "Gemma" Soprano of North Cape May died peacefully at the Rectory of St. John Neumann on December 9, 2010. The youngest daughter of Clotilda and Giovannibaptista Gatta, she was born in Farrell, PA and she outlived her parents and all her siblings: Josephine, Samuel, Antoinette, Louis, Ernest, Albert, Phyllis, and Rose. She married Ralph Soprano on June 20, 1936 and resided in Delaware County for 40 years; where they raised their daughters Amelia and Louise. In 1950, the family moved to Mantua, Gloucester County, NJ; and their third child Ernest was born. Jennie was always involved in her children's lives at school. She was an officer of the PTA at Gloucester Catholic High School from 1955 - 1960. Jennie loved her parish, Incarnation, in Mantua and was an officer in the Altar & Rosary Society there for many years. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters for 50 years. After 50 years in Mantua, Jennie moved to be with her son Ernest after Ralph's death; and lived in Vineland at St. Francis Rectory until moving to North Cape May in 2009 to the St. John Neumann Rectory. She is survived by: her son Rev. Father Ernest Soprano of North Cape May; her daughter Amelia (Glen) Thompson of High Point, NC; her grandchildren: Joseph A, James R, John M, Jeffrey T Sarbello & Jennifer (Kent) Shore; 6 great grandchildren; and son-in-law Joseph Sarbello (Debbie Walker). She was preceded in death by her daughter Louise Sarbello. There will be a viewing on Sunday afternoon (12/13/2010) at the Parish of St John Neumann at St John of God RC Church, 680 Townbank Rd, N Cape May, NJ 08204 from 2 PM to 7 PM and again on Monday morning 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Mass will be concelebrated where clergy, friends, and relatives may gather at 11:00 AM. Immediately following, interment will be at St. Bridget Cemetery, Glassboro, NJ. In place of flowers and mass cards, donations in Jennie's memory are requested to the Parish of St. John Neumann.
