Joseph W. Lonergan, age 93, of North Cape May, NJ on December 3, 2010. Husband of Anne E. (nee McGeehan). He was born in South Philadelphia and graduated from Roman Catholic High School in 1935. He served in the U.S. Navy Sea-Bee from 1942-1945. He was employed by the George R. Habgood Co. and was an ornamental fabricator for many years. Joseph was a resident of Roslyn, PA from 1956-1978 and then retired to North Cape May in 1978 where he began a second career as a public servant and community volunteer. He served on the Lower Township Council from 1984 to 1986 and again from 1989-1994 and was an officer in the Lower Township Democratic Club. He was a member of the St. John Neumann Parish of St. John of God Church where he served on the Parish Council, was a Eucharistic Minister and President of the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Joe was an active member of R.S.V.P. (delivery of meals on wheels), V.LT.A. (volunteer tax preparation) and the Knights of Columbus Stella Maris Council #3546 where he served as financial secretary. In addition to Anne his wife of 54 years he is survived by his sons; Deacon Joseph W. Jr. (Kathleen of Lansdale, PA, Michael P. (Deborah) of Orwigsburg, PA and John E. of Sumter, SC; daughters, Carol Ann York (Roger) of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Mary T. Adams (Joel) of Media, PA; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Ann (nee Carroll) in 1954 and twin sons Michael Kevin and Kevin Michael A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Tuesday, December 7,2010 at St. John Neumann Parish at St. John of God RC Church, 680 Townbank Road, North Cape May, NJ. Friends may call at the church from 10 to 11am. Burial will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Roman Catholic Alumni Association, 301 N. Broad St., Philadelphia, PA.
