Obituary of Michael Matthews

Matthews, Michael P., 55, of Green Creek, departed this life to be with the Lord on Friday, August 13th surrounded by his loving family. Michael was a resident of Cape May County for over 40 years. In recent times, in nursing care he found his passion. Also, a self-employed landscape contractor. He was well-known for his welcoming demeanor and his love for conversation. He was always willing to help people in any way he could. He was a hard worker, but found relaxation in fishing, playing guitar and tending to his lawn and garden. His most recent journal entry reads, "Darkness ia always followed by a miracle" His greatest pride and joy were his three sons, and you would always find him on the sidelines watching them excel in sports during their high school years. He is survived by his father Patrick S. Matthews; his wife Charlene R. Matthews; daughter of Rose M. Graiff; children Michael A. Matthews, Joseph P. Matthews, and Thomas J. Matthews. He will be sadly missed by a large extended family; sister Patricia Frick and husband Joseph; sister Theresa Morales and husband Ed, brother James Matthews and wife Rose; brother Robert Matthews and Michele; 20 nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his mother Dorothea T. Matthews, his sister Kathleen Sheenan, and father-in-law Angelo F. Graiff. A memorial service will be held Thursday, 11 am at the Covenant Presbyterian Church, 123 Fishing Creek Road in N. Cape May. Visitation is from 10 to 11 am.
