Obituary of Clifford Bigwood

Clifford Bigwood, age 85, of North Wildwood died Thursday, May 20, 2010. Born in Camden, NJ on March 28, 1925 he had been a long time resident of West Cape May before moving to North Wildwood 25 years ago. Clifford was a WW II US Navy veteran having served in the Pacific Campaign as a coxswain in the US Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees). He had worked as a refrigeration engineer and later worked as a painter for 32 years at Northwest Magnesite Co. in Cape May Point where he was a member of the United Steel Workers Union. He was an avid bowler and member of bowling leagues in Rio Grande, Wildwood and Atlantic City. Clifford could be seen throughout Wildwood and North Wildwood while taking daily walks of 3 to 4 miles with his wife Helen. They were frequent visitors and contributors to the Hereford Inlet Lighthouse. He was an active member of the West Cape May Volunteer Fire Dept. for 18 years and later with the North Wildwood Neighborhood Crime Watch Program. He received an award of appreciation from the West Cape May Community Christmas Parade Committee for entertaining children for 17 years as a clown in the annual Christmas Parade. He was a regular contributor to the American Red Cross blood drives.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 63 years, Helen Bigwood; a son Keith Bigwood, and his wife Grace of Princeton, NJ; grandson Christopher Hudson and his wife, Jody of West Columbia, SC; granddaughters, Laura Endicott, and her husband Richard of Galloway, NJ, Kimberly Oates and her husband Charles of Bridgewater, NJ and Alison Brown, and her husband Bobby T. of Franklin Park, NJ; seven great-grandchildren, Summer, Ian and Sean Hudson, Felycia and Samantha Endicott and Alec and Trevor Oates.
