Obituary of Patricia M Mingo
Please share a memory of Patricia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Patricia M. Mingo, 54 of Ocean View, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2023 surrounded by her family.
She was born to Gerry and Patricia Blackburn in Groton, Connecticut, on April 7, 1969, where she grew up, attending Fitch Senior High School, graduating in 1987.
Shortly after, she met her husband of 32 years, Peter, while he was attending the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. After his graduation in 1990, and their marriage in 1991, the two of them began their journey around the country together.
By 1995, they had their first daughter, Nicole, and in 1998, they had their second, Adrienne. The family of 4 (plus a few dogs) moved from New Jersey to Florida, North Carolina, Alabama, Virginia, Washington, and then back to New Jersey, where in 2016, Peter retired from the Coast Guard.
Every place they lived, Trish collected and cherished her friends, hosting holiday parties, raffles, book club meetings, and BUNCO. She was a ninja with her sewing machine and could make you something you had dreamed of, in a matter of hours. She was also one of the best gift givers, always remembering the smallest of details about someone, knowing exactly what to get them.
In her 30 years of being a mother, she attended hundreds of swim meets, cheerleading and soccer practices, PTA meetings, culture festivals and band concerts. She was there at every single one with a smile on her face and her voice ready to cheer them on. She scrapbooked through her daughter's early childhood and memorialized some of their best memories (including their first haircuts, school pictures, and the most embarrassing of Halloween costumes). She lived to uplift and amplify her family, taking care of them before herself. Everything she did, was for them.
Trish, even in her last days, kept up her stubborn spirit, fighting through to the end, and when she passed, she left behind an incredible legacy through all the people she's known in her life. Her family was overwhelmed with the outpouring of love and strength that was sent their way, most of which was from their Coast Guard community. It was a true testament to her character, and reading everyone's stories and experiences with her brought her family so much joy and comfort.
Trish is preceded by her father Gerry in 2005, and her sister Heather in 2021.
She is survived by her dedicated husband and their two daughters, as well as her mother, Pat, and countless friends that were so close, they're considered family.
Peter, Nicole and Adrienne would like to thank everyone who's reached out to them, sent flowers, sent condolences and support, and shared memories of Trish. It's been a long, difficult journey here, but we are just grateful she is at peace. They would also like to thank Evoy Funeral Home for taking good care of Trish, handling her arrangements and cremation.
A service will be held for Trish to celebrate her life, at St. Patrick's Church, 32 E Main St., Mystic, CT, on October 21st at 10:00 am.
