Joseph (Joe) David Dufault, Sr., a beloved father, stepfather, and veteran, passed away peacefully at his home in Villas, New Jersey, on August 30, 2026, just days shy of his 87th birthday. Born on September 4, 1939, in Sanford, Maine, to Valmore and Albertha (Armstrong) Dufault, Joseph led a life marked by dedication, service, and love.

Joseph proudly served his country as a member of the United States Armed Forces for 25 years, demonstrating unwavering commitment and patriotism. Following his distinguished military career, he continued to serve his community with honor, dedicating 20 years to the Cape May County Sheriff's Department. His sense of duty and integrity left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Beyond his professional life, Joseph found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid gardener, delighting in nurturing and growing plants. His love for card games, particularly cribbage and Kings in the Corner, brought him countless hours of enjoyment and camaraderie with friends and family. Joseph was also a proud member of the Masons, where he found fellowship and purpose.

Joseph is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anna Dawn Dufault, whose memory he cherished dearly. His sister Joan passed away in 2001. He leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy: his sister Doris Currier, his daughter, Suzanne Lauzier; his sons, Joseph Dufault II. and Daniel Dufault; his stepchildren, Steven Smearman and Grace Lashley, six grandkids and six great grandkids. Their lives are a testament to the values and love that Joseph instilled in them.

In accordance with Joseph's wishes, there will be no formal services. His family will hold him in their hearts and remember the many ways he enriched their lives.

Joseph David Dufault, Sr.'s life was one of service, love, and quiet strength. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
