It is with great sadness the family of Loretta Atkinson Guthan, 60 of Villas, NJ, passed away suddenly at her home Sunday, August 23rd, 2026.

Born February 21, 1966, in Darby, PA, Loretta was one of nine children born to the late Daniel and Elizabeth (Buchy) Atkinson of Ridley Park. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brothers Carl and Joe Atkinson. She was a 1984 graduate of Ridley High School.

Loretta always had a love of nature and science. She was employed for 38 years by Columbia Research Laboratories located in Woodlyn, PA, where she worked as an electronic and mechanical assembler, electronic technician and department manager. For the last 4 years she was employed by Cellular Tracking Technologies located in Cape May, NJ. Her duties at CTT included designing and adhering tracking devices that monitored the migration of Monarch butterflies and other migratory animals including turtles and horseshoe crabs.

In 2022, she and her soulmate, Stephen Guthan, her partner of over 31 years relocated from Boothwyn, PA to the Villas. Prior to their move, the two enjoyed visiting and vacationing at the Shore with staying at the Shady Oaks Campground in Seaville. The two enjoyed fishing, jet skiing and relaxing by the campfire.

Loretta also had a deep devotion to her faith especially novenas to the Blessed Mother. She was a member of the Parish of St. John Neumann Church of St. John of God.

She enjoyed cooking, baking and specializing in confectionary delights. Her favorite time of the year was hosting the Atkinson family during their yearly cookie baking and exchange.

Loretta will forever be missed by her husband of 6 years, Stephen Guthan and their cat - Baby. She will also be deeply missed by her six sisters Regina Atkinson, Patty (Fran) O’Hara, Mary (Kurt) Danenhower, Rose (Gerry) Paoli, Sue (Donna Martin) Atkinson and Beth Fadden; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects 10AM Monday, August 31st at the Parish of St. John Neumann Church of St. John of God, 680 Town Bank Road, North Cape May, NJ. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM immediately following the viewing.  Interment will be private and at the conveince of the family.
