Raymond Francis Morrissey, (Ray) 89, of Wildwood Crest, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026 surrounded by loving family. 

He was born on July 4,1936 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania the youngest child of John Morrissey and Marry Oates Morrissey. 

Raymond attended Northeast Catholic School for Boys in Philadelphia until one summer when he made the decision to make Wildwood Crest, New Jersey his forever home. 

In 1958, Raymond married Margaret Rhodes, and together they shared a daughter Margaret Anne Morrissey born January 10, 1959. 

Ray worked at A&P, SuperFresh Supermarket for 51 years. He was a dedicated and well respected Manager at the Wildwood,Delaware Ave location until his retirement. After his retirement Ray left the “Big City” and relocated to North Cape May to be closer to his daughter Margie, while she underwent cancer treatment. He remained close to her until her passing in February 2020. 

Ray was a true character; he could engage just about anyone in conversation, was quick with a joke and enjoyed friendly banter about current events and Philadelphia sports, a cruciverbalist (someone who enjoys crossword puzzles), a longtime Philadelphia Phillies fan. Ray was a recreational gambler who enjoyed the thrill of betting on Thoroughbred horse racing. He routinely attended live racing at the Atlantic City Race Course until its official closure in 2015. Most of all he loved family gatherings and meals together especially on the 4th of July. Ray will be forever remembered for his sense of humor, conversation, greeting cards, appetite for Entenmann’s baked goods and his love for his family especially his great grandchildren. 

Raymond is survived by his granddaughters Margaret Spitaletto, Daira Farrell and their spouses Anthony Spitaletto & Edward Farrell, his Son In-Love Richard Davies, Great Grandchildren (Genevieve, Hannah, Rosalie, Vera. Alice, Archer) and a host of loving family members and neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, wife Margaret Rhodes, his beloved daughter Margaret Anne Davies along with his longtime dog and companion “Buddy”. 

A Graveside service and burial will be held privately for close family only. Ray will be laid to rest beside his late Wife and Daughter at Fairview Memorial Cemetery in Cape May Courthouse.
