Elizabeth ‘Bette’ Ann Halbauer (nee Gilhooly) age 94, of Villas NJ, passed away on May 5, 2026, with her sons at her side at Cooper University Regional Hospital in Cape May Court House NJ, due to complications following surgery. Elizabeth was born the first of three daughters to James and Elizabeth Gilhooly in Jamaica Queens, NY and was raised in Belrose, NY. Elizabeth married Robert F Halbauer in 1956. She dedicated her life to raising her five boys. Elizabeth worked in Industrial Parts Sales for the Netzsch Corporation in Lionville, PA. She also worked as an administrative assistant for the Family Division of the Cape May County Superior Court and worked for ‘Stitch by Stitch’ needle point shop in Cape May. She was an avid reader and belonged to a local ‘Book Club’. She also loved needle point, and gardening. Bob and Bette were Friday regulars at the bar at Harbor View, with friends and neighbors.

Elizabeth is survived by her sons Robert F Halbauer Jr. (Elizabeth), Michael J Halbauer, Eric J Halbauer, and granddaughter Alexandra E Halbauer, and her sister Mary ‘Pat’ Graham. She preceded in death by her husband Robert F Halbauer Sr, sons Peter G Halbauer, Richard C Halbauer, and her sister Kate Goodman.

Family and friends are welcome to celebrate Elizabeth's life on Saturday, August 29th from 10:00 to 11:00 with a memorial service starting at 11:00 at Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Road, N. Cape May, NJ. 08204.
