Edward "Mike" Stelacio Obituary
Edward Michael Stelacio “Mike” passed away peacefully on Wednesday May 6, 2026. He spent his final days surrounded by his family and visited by loved ones. He was his active and vital self-mere weeks before his death. The lack of time to adjust to this devastating transition has left us all with extra heaviness to bear. However, anyone who knew E.M. Stelacio “Mike” understands that he lived his life in motion. While others were praying for a miracle to save his life, he told us, “I have been given my miracle. I have been blessed with a life far beyond what I could possibly deserve. I am in pain, but I can speak and receive communion, and I get to have time with those I love to say good-bye. How many people get to have that? I have received my miracle, and I know it is my time.”
Mike had tireless energy and a big personality. He left an impact on everyone he met. Through life's blessings and struggles, his achievements and challenges, he always sought out the love and help of his Heavenly Father to be a better man. He was a person who championed for the underdog and fully embraced those overlooked by others.
He is survived by his wonderful and devoted wife Patricia (nee Flanagan) of 60 years, four children, Michael (Meghan) Tricia, Maria (Karl) and Edward (Marita). Additionally, he is survived by his sisters Patricia Mason, Rosemary Dietrich, Carmela Wineburg, eleven grandchildren, Quinn, Liam (Cauanne), Braiden, Joseph, James, Patrick, John, Elizabeth, Mary, Pete and Erin. He considered himself blessed to have bonus grandchildren, Andre, Christina, John, Jake, Chase, Sienna, Emily, Abby, Danielle, Gabriell, and Kyle. Finally, he cherished his granddogs, Chaia, Gert and Chubs.
Edward Michael was born in Philadelphia, PA in September of 1944 to Anthony and Marguerite (nee Callahan) Stelacio, who preceded him in death, as did his brother Anthony Stelacio, his brothers-in-law, James, Richard, and William and his son-in-law Scott McGarrigle.
A graduate of Cardinal Dougherty, he served in the United States Army from 1965-1967 and on the Philadelphia Police force for 25 years retiring as a detective in 1990. Michael continued to serve our country and his fellow veterans with the utmost dedication to improving the lives of those who served. He did this in a myriad of roles within the American Legion, most notably Pennsylvania State Commander.
