Frederick George Ballay, age 85 of Cape May, passed away on Thursday April 16, 2026 with his family by his side. He was born in Camden NJ to Fred and Freda Ballay. Fred was a 1958 graduate of Camden Catholic High School. He has been a Cape May area resident since 1997 and was formerly of Haddon Heights, NJ. Fred retired from Cigna Insurance Co. in Philadelphia after a 30-year career.

Fred was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan, often glued to the TV during their games while dressed in the appropriate team jersey with a matching baseball hat. He embraced retirement in Cape May and was a former member of Greater Cape May Elks Lodge (Villas), the Moose Lodge (Erma) and the VFW Post 386 in Cape May. He also was an avid fisherman, especially surf and jetty fishing, and occasionally going out on a Party Boat. Fred’s zest for life was contagious. He loved sharing good times with family and friends, and he loved to laugh – an iconic laugh that brought a smile to everyone around him.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife Alice; four children, Fred G. Ballay III, Nancy (Colleen) Ballay, Christopher (Suzanne) Ballay and Scott (Julie) Ballay, Daughter in-Law Carol Ballay; his siblings, Carol Gillece and John Ballay.

He also leaves his Grandchildren, whom he adored: Kyle, Shawn, Tara, Lauren, Adelle and Gavin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Freda Ballay and Stepfather Theodore Warner.
