George J. Robinson Obituary

George J. Robinson, a man defined by his unwavering dedication to family and community, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2026, at the age of 86.

Born and raised in West Philadelphia, George was the son of the late George A. Robinson and Mary E. (née Cavanaugh). Known as “Gee Gee” to his family since childhood, he carried that nickname with him throughout his life. He was the brother of the late Patricia (the late Robert Coleman) and Jo-Ann (the late David Fosbenner). While he was “Gee Gee” to his siblings, to his wife, children, and grandchildren, he was simply - and lovingly - known as “Pop.”

Pop’s life was a testament to service. He dedicated more than 33 years to the Philadelphia Fire Department, where he earned the respect of his fellow firefighters as a man of steady nerves, deep courage, and quiet reliability - a true “fireman’s fireman.” Whether it was a piece of equipment at the station or a broken toy at home, the “Boogie Man” had a gift for fixing anything.

After retiring from the fire department, he continued serving his community as a mail carrier in Avalon, New Jersey, becoming a familiar and friendly face to many. In his later years in the Villas, New Jersey, he volunteered with Meals on Wheels, delivering not only meals but kindness and companionship to seniors who looked forward to his visits.

For more than 30 years, Pop embraced life as a snowbird, splitting his time between New Jersey and Marco Island, Florida. No matter where he was, his heart was always with his family.

His greatest pride was his 67-year marriage to his beloved wife, Mafalda “Sheila” (née Panichi). Together, they built a life rooted in love, loyalty, and devotion - the foundation of their entire family.

He was the devoted father of Sheila (Jamie Rose), Michael (Antonina Janik), George (Lisa White), and Ronald (Michelle Ludwig). He was the proud grandfather of Jason, Shannon, Alexandra, Juliet, Rose Mary, Jessica, Ronnie, Olivia, Abbey, and Ella, and the cherished great-grandfather of nine.

George leaves behind a legacy of hard work, quiet strength, and a life spent in service to others. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends - from the streets of West Philadelphia to the shores of New Jersey and the beaches of Florida.

Though he is gone from our sight, he will forever remain in our hearts as our “Pop.”
