Deborah L. Purcell Obituary

Deborah Leigh Purcell, 58, of Blackwood, New Jersey, passed away on March 28, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to her family.

Born on May 3, 1967, Deborah was the cherished daughter of Nancy and Kus Kuswendra and the late Frederick D. Smith, Sr. From an early age, she radiated warmth and kindness, building a life that reflected her deep love for those around her.

Deborah shared 31 beautiful years of marriage with her husband, Vincent Dominic Purcell. She was a proud and loving mother to Michaela Lambert (Cody) and Vincent Purcell (Mya), and her greatest joy came in her role as “Gigi” to Hayden and Grayson. Her grandchildren were the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them.

Debbie’s passion for learning led her through St. Raymond’s Elementary School, Middle Township High School, and Rutgers University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree, followed by her master’s degree from Nova Southeastern University. For almost three decades, she dedicated herself to her students as a home economics teacher with most of her career spent at Ann A. Mullen Middle School. She was more than an educator, she was a mentor, a source of encouragement, and a bright light for her students.

Debbie will be remembered for her vibrant personality and unmistakable sense of style. She had a love for glitz and glamour, a fondness for her beloved cowboy boots, and a gift for finding joy in life’s simple pleasures, whether it was a day at the beach, a great bargain, or a country music concert. Above all, her happiest moments were those spent surrounded by her family.

She is reunited in eternal rest with her father and her beloved sister, Constance Smith. She also leaves behind her brothers, Frederick D. Smith Jr. (Ginny), Andri Kuswendra (Lynda), and many nieces, nephews, and other dear family members and friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.

Deborah’s absence will be deeply felt, but her love, laughter, and beautiful spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched.

Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate Deborah’s life on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the time of service at 1:00 PM at Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Road, North Cape May, New Jersey.
