Well-liked and loved by many, it is with great sadness the son of Frederick J. O’Brien II, 60, a long-time North Cape May resident announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, January 17 at Cooper Cape Regional Medical Center, Cape May Court House.
Born March 4, 1965 in Philadelphia he was the son of the late Frederick and Mary O’Brien. He moved to Cape May County with his parents when he was 8 years old growing up near Schooner’s Landing and North Cape May.
He worked as a commercial fisherman and started his own business “Anytime Towing” when he was not out at sea. He was also employed by Lamonica Fine Foods, Vineland.
One of Fred’s greatest accomplishments in life was raising his son and best friend, Frederick Joseph O’Brien III. He instilled the ethics of hard work in his son Ricky. He also taught him how to work on his Chevy trucks and build monster trucks in his garage. He always made time for Ricky, when he wasn’t teaching him how to fish, they would be off camping, skiing and snow boarding or visiting water parks.
Fred is survived by his son Frederick Joseph O’Brien III; grandson Frederick Joseph O’Brien IV; sisters Sheila and Patricia; 5 nieces and 1 nephew; several cousins; loved one Dawn; wife Paula (mother of Ricky); and many dear friends and colleagues.
