In Loving Memory of Joseph Albert Vandergrift – 55 Years Old.
10/13/1970 - 10/29/2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Joey, who departed this life on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. He was known for his gentle heart, kind spirit, generosity, and the love he shared so freely with everyone around him. Joey will be especially missed by his twin brother Larry Vandergrift.
Joey was born to the Late Elizabeth (Spielburger) York and Lawrence W. Vandergrift. Born in Cape May County, grew up in the Villas, and lived in North Cape May. He attended Lower Cape May Regional High School. As a young man he was a volunteer Fire Fighter in the Villas. He served in the Army National Guard for 8 years. He also worked as a Cross Country Truck Driver for many years. Joey wore many hats in his life, but the job he loved most was being an EMT and being able to help people.
He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his compassion and his ability to bring comfort and laughter to those fortunate enough to know him. His presence was a blessing and his memory will remain a light in our hearts forever.
He leaves behind his father Lawrence W. Vandergrift Sr., twin brother Lawrence W. Vandergrift Jr, sister Catherine E. Sauerzopf, and sister Betty Jo Sutton, nephew Matthew H Sutton, neice Ashley Sutton, nephew Ray Sutton, and great niece, Kaydance Sutton, Acelynn Sutton, Olivia Sutton and Scarlett Sutton, who will forever cherish his memory and carry his love in their hearts.
A Memorial celebration of Joey’s life will be held on Saturday, November 15th from 1PM to 2PM at Evoy Funeral Home, Inc. 3218 Bayshore Road in North Cape May, NJ 08204. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Volunteers in Medicine, 423 North Route 9 in Cape May Court House, NJ 08210, in Joey’s memory. Forever loved, never forgotten.
