It is with great sadness the family of Gary L. Shoemake announces his sudden passing on Saturday, November 1st at his residence.
Gary was born April 17, 1950 in Seattle, WA to the late Smith and Wilma (Weingatner) Shoemake. Wilma’s dream was to become a mother, but because of her struggles with Polio she was uncertain that would happen. She and Smith were blessed with their only child, Gary.
After graduating from Lower Cape May High School, he joined the United States Airforce and studied communications. He became a radio repairman which led him to work for the former Bell Telephone and Verizon Companies. After retiring from Verizon, he continued his education and graduated from Atlantic Community College earning his Associates Degree. He continued to share his knowledge and love of learning by volunteering his time tutoring the students the ACC.
He enjoyed science fiction movies and tv shows, especially Star Trek. The only thing he enjoyed doing more than fixing anything electronic was casting his line down at the ocean trying for the big catch.
At the age of 20, Gary married a young 17year-old girl named Linda Taylor. The two met in high school during detention and immediately fell head over heels for each other. They had a love like no other. 55 years of marriage led to 3 children, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many wonderful memories.
Gary will forever be missed by the love of his life, Linda; children Wendy Conover wife of James, Kristy Pollard and Erik Shoemake husband of Amanda; grandchildren Thomas, Brittany, Bethany, Edward, Jerry, Mason, Hannah and Owen; and great grandchildren Autumn, Aurora, Avarey and Hadley.
Private services and interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
