Robert Wernik 12/28/1939 - 9/1/2025

On September 1st, 2025 Robert (Bob) Wernik (85), life-long resident of Cape May, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home and family. Bob was born on December 28, 1939 as the fourth child in a family of seven, He was a trusted and beloved brother.

He left Cape May in 1958 to join the Marine Corps and would serve his country for the next six years.

A lover of animals, the universe, and his family, Bob spent the best parts of his life married to his wife of 51 years, Bernadette. Together they raised two children (Kevin and Lori) and proudly attended their meets, games, and school events. In his later years, Bob would be found "breakfasting" throughout Cape May with Kevin. 

During his decades long career with the NJ Department of Corrections, Bob was known to be a hardworking and dedicated man. In retirement, he found immense joy in his connection with his dog, Gus.

His tenacity in life carried over into his fight against cancer as Bob courageously battled prostate cancer, multiple myeloma, melanoma and a squamous cell carcinoma that would eventually claim one eye. Never complaining, Bob's strength bought him extra time with his family including the opportunity to meet his two grandsons, Declan and Patrick. 

Bob is survived by his wife, Bernadette, his children, Kevin and Lori, and his siblings Albert, Joyce, and Donald. He is preceded in death by his siblings John, Ronald, and Richard. His many nieces, nephews and grandchildren will miss the times spent laughing with Bob. 

Bob will be remembered in many ways and if you have any memories to share, please send them our way. 

Bob's family would like to invite you to his celebration of life at Evoy Funeral Home 3218 Bayshore Road North Cape May, September 14th, 2025 from 10-12 noon. A reception will follow for close family and friends. Thank you for being a part of Bob's life.
