Obituary of Michael J. Bean

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

It is with great sadness, the family of Capt. Michael J. Bean announces his sudden passing on Tuesday, August 19th at Cooper Regional Medical Center, Cape May Court House.

Born November 8, 1944, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late William and Katherine Bean. Growing up in Philadelphia, he attended and graduated from Father Judge High School, Class of 1963. He would spend his summers as a young boy on the beaches of Cape May visiting his grandmother while his mother worked.

Michael had a caring nature about him and always had the desire to help others which is probably what led him to choose a career as a firefighter. He served as a Captain and Lieutenant for the City of Philadelphia. While at the fire department, he was known for his skills in the kitchen and always ready and willing to cook a meal for his boys. After his retirement in 1993, he relocated permanently to his family home in Cape May.

When he wasn’t working, Mike enjoyed a round of golf with friends, fishing off the shores of the Atlantic Coast or traveling with his wife Connie. He was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church, Cape May, the Moose Lodge and the North Wildwood Elks. He was known for his quick wit and fun nature.

Michael will forever be missed by those who knew him; but no one will miss him more than his wife of 35 years, Mary C. “Connie” (Gluch) Bean; sons Timothy, Scott and Jeffrey husband of Laura; and grandchildren Aidan, Eva and Vivienne. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and many dear friends.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:30PM Tuesday, August 26 at Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, 525 Washington Street Cape May, NJ 08204. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 12:30PM until the time of the Mass. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Evoy Funeral Home 3218 Bayshore Road North Cape May has been entrusted with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made in Michael’s memory to the Local 22 Widows Fund.  Donations can be mailed to: Local 22 Widows Fund, 415 N. 5th St., Philadelphia, PA. 19123
