Shocked to learn of Tommy’s passing. He and I were partners in the 16th District as rookie cops. And in 1984 when I remarried to my wife now of 41 years, Virginia (Ginny), Tom honored me serving as my Best Man!
Although we lost touch over the years, he touched my life beyond all the memories I could ever list here.
We were a great team on and off the job. Yes, he’d entertain me with his voice while we patrolled the streets of West Philly. Moreover, we had each other’s back. Those years long ago bring back so much joy. Rest in peace my brother! Tommy Smith

When someone passes.
A dear friend has passed, and so we cling,
It's here, where we come together to sing.
The magic bonds, with those who sense,
A colorful pallet, of pleasant effulgence.
Much needed, are all the shades of grey,
To accent, brilliant colors of the bouquet.
These hues of life, enabling us to evolve,
With image and purpose, to help resolve.
Their mien and light, now is an empty place,
Still, they're here as they left without a trace.
We'll all return, to sing of the colors sublime,
And to share a somber embrace, of this time.
A path will be enlightened, that is for sure,
To help us to heal and, give our hearts cure.
From some other place, will come the rejoice,
Lifting of our spirits, and to join in their voice.

Tommy, you were my Tony’s life-long friend before I was introduced to you. You were one of three others who made up a “family” of great guys. Whenever we all got together, it was a lot of fun, laughter, conversation, and the sharing of unforgettable memories. My personal memory of you will always be the kindness and support you gave to me after my Tony passed. Your visits and phone calls always arrived at the proper moment. It was like Tony was sending you to me to snap me back. Your offers of encouragement helped me deal with my self-doubt. I will always remember you. Thank you Tom, rest in peace.
