Dear Becky,
I fondly remember the summer you tried valiantly to
teach my friend Huey and I Latin. Although I don't have the talent you had for Latin you inspired my love of language and scholarship. Over the years I have studied Latin, Anglo-Saxon, Gothic and German. Am I fluent in any of those--no. I have enjoyed the pursuit.
I will miss you greatly as will Emeri and Simon, my children, and my wife to whom you have shown only love.
Ave atque vale. Requiescat in pace.
