Barbara A. Mahon, 82, North Cape May entered into eternal rest Monday, March 17 at her residence with her family by her side. Born June 26, 1942 in Philadelphia, she was the only child born to William and Edna (Thompson) Bannon. After her father died when she was a small girl she was raised by Joseph Bannon. She grew up in the Kensington section of Philadelphia and graduated in 1960 from Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls. She worked in management at SEPTA and retired after 20years at the age of 50. After her retirement, she and her husband Bob relocated to North Cape May and worked at Warburton's Plumbing & Heating and became a real estate agent working at various agencies in Cape May County. Barbara enjoyed genealogy and studying her Irish heritage. She traced her ancestry back to the 1500's in Ireland. Her love of history was reflected in her world travels. She visited many continents and countries including Europe, Bermuda and Alaska; but her most moving journey was to her home country of Ireland. Barb was active in many different organizations but the one that she devoted the most time to was the Elks. She was instrumental in starting the Greater Cape May Elks Chapter 2839 and was the first women to become an Exalted Ruler at Lodge 2839. She was made an honorary Life Member of Chapter 2839. Barbara had a generous and giving heart and was known for her charitable works in the community. She partnered with Senator Frank Lobondio to get funding for projects for those in need in the community. She was also the President of the North Cape May Senior Citizen's of North Cape May. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her aunt Margaret Kedra and uncle Frank Thompson. Surviving are her husband of 35 years, Robert Mahon; children William Kresz (Lisa), Thomas Kresz (Diane) and Sharon Kresz (Joseph Shiffler); step children Richard Mahon (Kimberly), Stephen Mahon (Barbara), Mary Theressa Barr (Robert), Stephanie Goldberg (Cary), Patricia Mahon and Robert Mahon; grandchildren Thomas, Anthony, Samantha, Amanda, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Richard, Jana, Eric, Elizabeth, Jacob, Daniel and Brian; great-grandchildren TJ, Nico, Tanner, Leo, Michael and Zoe; and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 9AM until 10:30AM Tuesday, March 25 at Evoy Funeral Home 3218 Bayshore Road North Cape May NJ. The Elks Memorial Service will be held at 10:20 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11AM at the Parish of St. John Neumann Church of St. John of God 680 Town Bank Road North Cape May. Interment will be held on the grounds of Cold Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls 1000 West Lycoming Street Philadelphia PA 19140 or the ENF (Elks National Foundation) at ENF.ELKS.ORG/Donate or 2750 N.
