Obituary of Joseph J Discepola Sr

Joseph J. Discepola, 82, North Cape May, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, March 12th at Cooper-Cape Regional Cape May Court House.
Born May 17, 1942, in Germantown PA, he was one of eight children born to the late Ralph and Elizabeth (Strouse) Discepola. He was a 1960 graduate of Cardinal Dougherty High School and enlisted in the United States Marine Corp where he served as a PFC from 1960-1964.
Joe was the owner of Turney Media Fuel located in Media PA. He was dedicated to providing the best for his family and customers over the years. He enjoyed studying historical events and camping with his family. In 2004, he and his wife Marion moved to Stone Harbor and eventually relocated to North Cape May in 2010.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father Carmen Discepola who raised him after his father died at a young age. He was also preceded in death by his daughter Mary Beth; brothers Ralph and Michael and a sister Kate.
Joe is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 57 years, Marion (nee Smedley); son Joseph J., Jr.; daughter Serena Shaffer (Scott); son Matthew M. (Colleen); grandchildren Joseph J. III, Mark S., Timothy M., Justin M., Matthew M. Jr., and Elanoure; three great-grandchildren Carter Joseph, Isabella and Chase. He is also survived by siblings Anne Mueller, Anthony Discepola, Agnes Bross (George), Stephen Discepola (Lisa); sister-in-law Nancy Discepola; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, March 19 at 11AM at the Parish of St. John Neumann Church of St. John of God 680 Town Bank Road North Cape May NJ 08204. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10AM until the time of Mass. Interment with military honors will be held Thursday, March 20 at 11AM on the grounds of the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 3301 West Cheltenham Ave. Philadelphia PA.
