Shirley D Hewitt, age 83, of North Cape may passed away peacefully Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at her home at Victoria Commons. Shirley was born 11/02/1932 in Ocean City, NJ and has been a life-long Cape May area resident. She is the daughter of the late Horace L and the late Pearl (Hawn) French. Shirley was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, John L Hewitt, Jr. on 7/18/2003; her son Richard Hewitt in 2010; two brothers: Lou & Leroy; her brother-in-law Harold Hewitt; and sister-in-law Dorothy Hewitt Newkirk. She is survived by one daughter: Dottie (Bruce) Hudson of Erma, NJ; and four sons: David L Hewitt of FL; Paul W Hewitt of North Cape May, NJ; John L Hewitt, III of L; and Robert J Hewitt of Rio Grande, NJ. Also surviving are: her sister Carolyn Swagler of Dennisville, NJ; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 10, 2016 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at First Baptist Cemetery, Magnolia & Church Streets, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her late husband John L Hewitt, Jr's memory to the ALS Assoc., 321 Norristown Rd, Suite 260, Ambler, PA 19002.
