William "Bill" Arthur Boykin, age 86, of North Cape May passed away Saturday, August 20, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. The son of Robert Lee Boykin and Alice Boykin, Bill was born in Athens, Texas on January 5, 1930. After 20 years of service, he honorably retired from the United States Coast Guard with the distinction of Master Chief Boatswain Mate. Master Chief Boykin started his distinguished career as a seaman apprentice assigned to a newly established training center in Cape May, NJ, along with search and rescue work. Upon retirement from the Coast Guard in 1968, Bill became a Sheriff's Deputy at the Cape May County Sherriff's Department for twelve years, followed by captaining the Cape May Lewes Ferry. During his retirement years, he enjoyed his time spent with grandchildren, fishing, helping others, camping and visiting family. Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Lois (Zeiss) Boykin; his brother Ben Boykin; and his children: William Boykin, Jr. & Sharon Schultz. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Kellie Brittingham, Jaimie Boykin, Nicole Ramirez, Lori Lybarger, & Ashley Vassel; 10 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Burial will be for immediate family members following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Bill's memory to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 Route 9, Swainton, NJ 08210.
