John J Gomes, age 65, of Rio Grande passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 at University of Pennsylvania Hospital of Philadelphia, PA. John was born September 26, 1950 in New Brunswick, NJ and was raised on the Gomes Family Farm in Monmouth Junction, NJ. He is the son of the late Jose R and the late Mary (Ribeiro) Gomes. John served in the Air Force Reserves during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a Respiratory Therapist at Greenbrook Regional Hospital. He was a former member of the Monmouth Junction Fire Department; a member of the East Brunswick Fire Department; the Devils Brook Sports Club in South Braunwick, NJ; was an avid hunter & fisherman; and an avid poker player. John is survived by his wife: Janet (Tammaro) Gomes; his sister: Gloria (Stephen) Mayer; 2 nieces: Lauren & Christa; and his dear cousin and close friend Daniel Saraiva. There will be a viewing from 3:00 to 5:00 PM on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 and again from 9:30 to 10:30 AM on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at the Parish of St John Neumann, St John of God RC Church, 680 Townbank Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204. Interment will be private. The family suggests donations in John's memory to Family Promise of Cape May County, 505 Townbank Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204.
