Edith M Smith, 57, of Clermont passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at her home. Born in Aguada, Puerto Rico; she has been a Cape May area resident for many years. She was employed at Griswold Special Care in Ocean City for 7 years, and was a caregiver for Helen Smith (her mother-in-law) for the past two years. Edith was a loving and caring person. She enjoyed preparing food and was an exceptional cook. Edith is survived by her husband of 23 years Garry Smith of Clermont; and her sons Heliodoro Mendez Jr. & Frank Mendez both of CT. Also surviving are 5 brothers: Francisco, Anibal, Tony, Johnny, & Ray; 7 sisters: Gladys, Aida, Carmen, Curi, Lali, Sonia, & Hena; and many nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Efigio & Felicita Roman and her sister Gagi. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 24th at Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May; where friends may call from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Edith's memory to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 Route 9, Swainton, NJ 08210.
